Our southernmost vineyard on the Mittelhaardt with vines that are over 30 years old. A mix of red sandstone, limestone rubble and lime marl, combined with a south-easterly exposure, form a beautiful contrast to the sites in Deidesheim which are dominated by red sandstone. Whole bunch pressing is essential here, as the amount of lime greatly affects acidity levels. This is how we want to preserve the filigree of the vineyard. Brioche on the nose, fine spice, somewhat atypical for Riesling, calcareous, chalky, deep and firm on the palate. These are probably the most underestimated “great growth” sites – and this is a safe bet for us every year.
