Rocky, sandy towards sandy clay; boulders at the foot of the mountain range
The vineyard location rises steadily up to the edge of the forest, where it enjoys a mild microclimate. The area is dominated by a multifaceted, mixed soil structure of sand, sandy clay, stone, and mottled sandstone: weathered soil with scattered limestone deposits. Our plots lie in the Gewanne Steingrube and the Achtmorgen, which for us are the most interesting parts of the Reiterpfad, home to two different microclimates. In the Gewanne Steingrube, the otherwise very windy and warm location is influenced by the coolness of the nearby forest. For some time now, we have worked the vineyard in the Steingrube with our cousin Julian.
