Clay towards clayey sand, with boulders in places
The sheer size makes for very different wines, often with a classic, rather earthy or minerally Mittelhaardt fruitiness. The nearby forest in between two valleys provides air masses that make for low humidity. The weathered soil made of red and yellow mottled sandstone stores up the day’s warmth and gives it back to the vines during the night to help them ripen.
